Multi-purpose eco infrastructure & green energy

Our commitment to creating eco-infrastructure and green energy is based on the philosophy of giving back more to nature than we take and only using what we actually need. It includes a commitment to our long-term vision of creating a zero-waste space, in which our building materials and infrastructure is sustainable for generations to come.

It involves research and development of existing materials that are found in the natural desert environment and engaging in frugal innovation. This means recycling and upcycling existing materials to repurpose their lifecycle. It also includes observing nature's patterns so we can build smart designs inspired by nature.

Breaking the globalized supply chain structure, we teach ourselves, immediate and direct community members to become self-sufficient, therefore raising awareness about our cradle to grave impact, considering the whole product lifecycle.

01

Research and Development

  • Local material research to go into infrastructure

  • Nature Observation and Biomimicry

02

Eco-infrastructures

  • Using eco-friendly, re-cycled, upcycled materials for building, decoration. Materials are re-purposed through frugal innovation.

  • Clay, straw, hemp and wood - Strawbale and Ramped Earth, Earth Bags

  • Human-nature functionality, where the spaces are multifunctional and can be converted based on communal needs.

03

Renewable Energy

  • Solar panels (heating water)

  • Photovoltaic panels

  • Wind turbines (small/family ones)

  • Rocket stove

04

Waste Infrastructure

“Waste is a human invention”

Our community strives to go towards a complete zero waste lifestyle. To secure a transition from a current normalised waste industry created by the market economy into one which is zero waste we have core action points dedicated to dealing with our waste.

Short Term

  • Ride Sharing to and from soil to soul

  • Recycling bins

  • Food Compost and Waste Compost

  • Guests staying at soil to soul are responsible for their own trash and its disposal

Long Term:

  • Cobweb and strawbale inspired building infrastructure with integration of waste materials such as glass bottles and tin cans. Integration of unused and re-purposed materials into building structures.

  • Creating our own landfill and using the landfill materials to create our own roads and pavements.

  • Education around the complete product lifecycle from cradle to grave. This includes a practical hands on experience which will be stimulated through our permaculture garden as a simulation for larger global supply chains and structures.

  • Re-use, reduce and recycle contest on how best to repurpose materials and reduce waste. Winners receive a sponsored education and personal development programme.
